Ingredients for making Moringa Leaves Dal
- 2 bowls Moringa leaves
- 1 bowl toor dal
- Few Shallots
- 3 tbsp oil
- 1 tomato (Roughly chopped)
- 1 tbsp chilli powder
- 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp Asafetida (Hing)
- 1/2 tbsp Cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp Coriander powder
- 2 dried red chillies
- 1 green chilli slit
- Few curry leaves
- Salt to taste

Steps for making Moringa Leaves Dal
- Heat the oil in the pressure cooker, add cumin seeds and curry leaves for tempering in a low flame since they splutter over you. Once they crackle, add dried red chillies and saute them.

- Then add chopped shallots and saute them until the shallots become transparent. Saute them in a low flame so that they don’t get burnt.

- Next, add chopped tomatoes and saute them until they become soft. You can sprinkle some salt at this stage.

- Then add the washed moringa leaves and saute them for five mins on a medium flame so that they turn soft and juicy.

- After sauteing the moringa leaves, add the washed toor dal and saute it in a medium flame.

- Then add the slit green chilli and sprinkle asafetida powder. Saute them for few mins.

- Then add all the masalas and saute them on a low flame until the raw smell of the masalas goes off.

- Then add water according to your consistency. Do not add more water so that the dal will become thin. Let the consistency be semi-gravy. Check for salt and add some if needed.

- Then close the pressure cooker and cook for 3 whistles.

- Once the pressure is released automatically, transfer the moringa leaves dal to the serving bowl. Serve hot moringa leaves dal with plain white rice and papad.

Quick Tips
- Sauteing all the ingredient on the low to medium flames so that you can prevent dish from getting burnt.
- While adding salt, add less salt than usual since the dal tends to absorb more salt.
- Once the cooking is done, check for salt and add if needed.
- While heating oil in the cooker, keep your flame on a low to medium so that the cooker will not be overheated because the overheated cooker will burn the cumin seeds.
- Semi-gravy consistency will be good for serving with plain rice. You can also have your desired side dish other than papad.
