Squid roast or Kanava Rost is a spicy semi-gravy dish that goes amazing with hot plain rice, roti or chapati.

Ingredients
  

TO MARINATE

  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • ½ Lemon's Juice

TO COOK

  • 1 Bowl Squid Chopped
  • 2 medium-sized Onions chopped thinly
  • 1 Tomato chopped finely
  • 1 tbsp Ginger-garlic paste
  • 3 tbsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 tbsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 tbsp Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp Pepper Powder
  • 5 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • Few Curry Leaves

Instructions
 

MARINATION

  • Add a tsp of turmeric powder to a washed squid.
  • Add a half lemon's juice and mix them evenly. Let them rest for 30 mins.

MAKING OF SQUID ROAST

  • Heat oil in a cooking pan and mustard seeds. Let it splutter. Then add curry leaves.
  • Add chopped onions. Saute them until they turn translucent. Sprinkle some salt over it.
  • Add a ginger-garlic paste and saute them until the raw smell goes off.
  • Add chopped tomatoes. Saute them until they turn mushy.
  • Add all the spice powders and saute them until the raw smell goes off.
  • Add a little water and bring it to a boil.
  • Add chopped squid and mix them gently.
  • Add a cup of water. Close the pan and cook the squid until it is done.
  • Serve hot.

Notes

  • Marinating the squid with turmeric powder and lemon helps to get rid of the fishy smell.
  • I have made it a bit spicy one but you can adjust the spiciness as per your taste.
